Meet Amelia and Jasper!

I want to introduce everyone to two new babies who were due Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 (my bday), but both decided to make their entrances a bit early.

Stephanie and Clea are both proud new mommies and the best of running buddies in Austin. Jill (who, by the way, just had a baby of her own on December 31) and I ran our first 50k at the race where Stephanie and Clea ran their first 50 miler. We all did it to raise money for the LAM Foundation. (Stephanie has LAM, but has not let it stand in her way of anything.)

Amelia Rose Kalahurka was born January 14 and finally got to go home last week.

Look at that little tummy - just about the cutest thing in the world!!

Jasper Alexander Czysz was born this morning, apparently after his momma did her last bike trainer workout while denying she was in labor!

I will start taking bets on how long it is before they are both hitting Town Lake with the babies in jogging strollers, and when their first race back will be. Even 8 months pregnant, Clea was still running faster than I ever will! I thoroughly enjoyed their stories throughout their pregnancies of running including the frequent bathroom stops and other adjustments that had to be made.

Perhaps my favorite part of this story is when Stephanie and Clea found out when they were pregnant. Stephanie announced she was expecting last June on a girls day trip to a race. In Stephanie's words, Clea "had an unusually subdued reaction." Later that day when they got back home, Clea called Stephanie and said she was expecting too! She and her husband had been trying for a while (and had not been advertising that fact) and had had a negative test recently so thought she wasn't pregnant. She decided to take one more test after she heard Stephanie's news and it was positive!

Stephanie and Clea have both been awesome role models for me in the running world, and now I cannot wait to follow their stories as the awesome moms I know they will be!

Hey Kathleen,

Thanks for the post and the kind words. Amelia and Jasper can't wait to meet you. Hang in there on the running. As you know, it has its ups and downs. Sounds like you are going through a tough time, but there will be another side. We enjoy reading about your adventures!

Ironman in verse

This is what I wrote and secretly put under everyone's doors tonight: The big day is almost here! Long it will be, but have no fear. You have put in miles and miles And will finish amidst numerous smiles. The hard work is over and done. Now is the time for nothing but fun. May your spirits be high throughout the day, And may nothing come along to stand in your way. Ironman is as much about the journey as the destination, And you will be rewarded for all of your determination. Hand-in-hand we will all jump in, Eagerly treading water as we wait to begin. At 7am the cannon will blast But be sure not to go out too fast. The cool water will run over your face, As you are now committed to the race. The Rural Bridge will seem so far away But keep those negative thoughts at bay. Once you turn around and head west To the Mill Ave. Bridge you go, trying your best. 2.4 miles will be over before you know it, And you will start to realize your thoughts of Iron are truly legit. On to the bike, f...

We did it!

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....
