A Weekend on the Sidelines

I spent most of the last weekend on the sidelines and loved it. I'll be doing more of the same this weekend at Ironman Florida. Maybe I'm better at being a cheerleader than a competitor.

Saturday morning Shellie, LaErica, and I ran 8 miles and ended up at the start/finish line downtown of the Pumpkin Run 5k. It was fun to watch and there were quite a few people in costumes. Most memorable was the guy dressed as Mark Spitz wearing a wig, mustache, medals, a speedo, and flip flops. Augie, Jon, and Jen all had an awesome race too. Augie won her age group, Jon got second in his, and Jen got a PR. The only downside to running to watch a race means you get pretty cold before it is all said and done. I was blue for about an hour, but soy hot chocolate at Onion Creek afterwards took care of that.

Saturday afternoon, Shellie and I visited the sidelines of Lisa's house...or more like we dove straight into the war zone! Sarah and Jessica have grown a lot since I saw them last and they definitely move around a lot more. Lisa seems to be doing great and I'm amazed at what awesome parents she and Jeff are.

Shellie and Jessica
Saturday night a few of us had a much-needed girls dinner and then headed "out" for a while. Yup, I am still a Grandma. All Saturday night did was ensure that I certainly have not gotten any younger recently. I try, but it just doesn't work.

Sunday morning a group of us headed out to watch the Houston Half Marathon. I had originally planned to run this, but cheering was a much better idea. The course is 3 boring loops on Allen Parkway. Well, boring for the runners, but awesome for us. We sat in the middle and saw everyone six times. The first 3 or so times that people ran by me, I had a chocolate donut in my hand. Everyone wanted my donut! We saw tooooons of people we knew and really had a great time cheering everyone on. I think we were all glad we were in lawn chairs with Starbucks instead of running.

We stayed until the very end and I am glad we did. There weren't many people left cheering when the last few runners/walkers were coming through, and they were so appreciative of us when we cheered for them. We also watched a blind runner, Eveling, finish her first half marathon. I had seen Eveling several times during the summer at Houston Fit Fall group runs, but had never spoken to her. I was just always amazed and also curious about her. She and her guide were the last people we watched go by on Sunday and she was grinning from ear-to-ear every time we saw her. I am so happy that she posted on the HFit discussion board so I was finally able to get to know a little more about her. Her story is here. She truly is an inspiration, and very funny too!

More pictures from the race are here.

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
