From God's Country to Sin City

God's Country (Zion Park, UT)
Sin City

That is about the best way to describe my trip this weekend! Our group included 12 runners, 9 of us who traveled together most of the way. We left early Friday morning and flew into Las Vegas. We drove straight to St. George from there, and the scenery just got prettier and prettier the further north we went.

Friday we just went to the expo, drove the course, ate pasta dinner at the hotel, and went to bed. It had been a pretty long day. When we got out at the start line the wind was howling. That was not a good sign of what was to come!

Saturday morning was spent racing, and that report is separate (above). The rest of Saturday was pretty tame, with lunch at a local Mexican restaurant, a nap, and a pretty good dinner at a place called the Gun Barrel Game and Steak House.

Sunday we went out to breakfast and then came back to the hotel and packed up to check out of the hotel and headed to Zion National Park. It was about an hour northeast of St. George, but the drive was awesome. It got pretty windy (as in winds around, not as in blowing...but it was probably pretty windy too) and was super fun to drive. We had rented a Camry so I enjoyed winding up through the mountains in a car that handled well. We took a shuttle tour of the park that was about 1.5 hours. Each stop had places that you could get out and hike, but we had a hard enough time getting on and off the bus, so we didn't press our luck with hiking. I was sad though - I'd love to go back and actually get out and go up some of the trails - it was a beautiful area.

After a lunch in the little town near Zion and a 3 hour drive, we were back in Las Vegas. We stayed at the Planet Hollywood. I'd never been to Vegas before, so it was all new to me. The hotel was fine to me except there was hardly any light at all in the room. I guess I'm not "cool" enough and actually like to be able to see in the room. The bathroom, on the other hand, was very well lit and huge! I liked it. We had dinner at Tao in the Venetian. It was a very nice meal and the food was great. It was fun to get dressed up and just be able to relax. We went to the Bellagio after that and then Stephanie and I called it a night around midnight. Big surprise I was among the first to head in! I'm glad I "saw" Vegas, but it is safe to say it isn't necessarily for me. I'm fine without it. I'd go back to Zion any day, but not so much Vegas. Monday we did get to sit by the pool, my happy place, so that was good!

All in all it was a very good trip and we all got along very well. You never know how traveling with 10-12 type A personalities is going to go, but I think we all made the best of it.

Zion is beautiful, Jeff and I went a couple years ago and hiked Angel's Landing- awesome! but there's no way I could do it after a race!

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
