July 4th Weekend

After the dog food project on Thursday, I went for a bike ride at the park at 2pm. Not a good idea when it was nearing 100 degrees, but it needed to be done. That was only training ride #2 since IMAZ. Seriously!
Shellie and I went to the Mucky Duck to see Bruce Robison play Thursday night and he was awesome as usual. If you haven't been to the Mucky Duck, you should definitely give it a try. It is a very small, intimate acoustic concert venue/Irish pub and restaurant. You get served dinner and drinks during the show, all while sitting down (not standing up getting knocked over by drunk rowdy people like most concerts). Bruce rocks. He always puts on a good show.

Friday morning came too early as many of us headed to Uptown Park to run the Run Wild 5k. My 5k PR (24:27) came on a 45 degree morning, so I certainly wasn't expecting to come near that time, but I was hoping to at least run 25:30-26:00. No such luck! I ran just under 27:00. Oh well. I tried. Shellie, William, and Luke all had huge PR's and ran awesome. Afterwards Shellie, Miranda, Luke, William, Andrew, and myself all headed out for a big breakfast and a few birthday celebrations. I went home after that and slept nearly 5 hours. It was awesome!
Friday night we headed to Shellie's for a nice dinner and watched the fireworks over the bayou. I made a new dessert for the first time and I'm in trouble. It was good and very easy to make. So good I think I had it for about 4-5 meals over the weekend.
Fireworks pictures never turn out well...:-(
Saturday morning I ran 12 miles with the Houston Fit Fall group. They ran 10.5 and I ran an extra 1.5 at the end. Somehow I had an awesome run. I was under 10:00 pace well over half way into the run and finished up around 10:20 or so. That is super fast for me, especially for a long run in the middle of summer. I felt it afterwards - but it was all a good hurt. I wish I knew when I was going to have good runs like that or knew how to make them happen more often!
After the run I headed home to Beaumont to do nothing but sleep and eat. I did manage to do a little shopping as well. Doug and Linda (part of Team W at IMAZ) came over for lunch Saturday and started asking about the next Team W outing. They are already excited about IMCDA, so it looks like Team W will be in full force again next year (Thank God!). Doug did ask if he had to wear pink again next year and we all said "YES!"
I left Beaumont after lunch on Sunday intending to swim when I got back to Houston, but that didn't happen. I just took a nap instead! I did get some stuff done around my apartment that had been needing to get done for a while, so at least I was somewhat productive. I also watched an old co-worker's sister win the 100m hurdles at the Olympic Trials. That was super cool!

Ok, more details are needed about that super easy desert. What is all in it? It does look good!

You had a great run on Saturday! I was pleased to see you were right behind me at the turnaround. You have really increased your speed! And your 5k PR...Damn! I'm jealous.

Liz - super easy.

Make 1 yellow cake in 9x13 pan. Cut into little cubes. Make vanilla pudding - about 2 boxes (but don't learn the hard way like me that silk doesn't so much work for pudding). Slice strawberries and soak in sugar. Buy 2-3 tubs of cool whip.

In a big bowl, put 1/3 of the cake mess on the bottom, then 1/3 of the pudding, then 1/3 of the berries, then 1/3 of the cool whip. Repeat twice. Garnish however.

I have all sorts of plans for other bowls of mush. Chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, whip cream and oreos; tapioca pudding, rum cake, whip cream, and pineapple/malibu rum; and so on and so on. You can use any combination of fruit/berries you want.

You have to keep me posted regarding the next time Bruce is in town, or the next time a must-see band goes to the Mucky Duck. (I've never been.)

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
