Jeff & Brede's Intergalactic Triathlon

I'm just now looking back at the results realizing I have done this race 4 years in a row. That is pretty cool! It is one of the few races in the area that hasn't changed its course at all over the past few years so you really can compare your times from year to year. It is a 300m pool swim, 12 mile bike, and 3 mile run. Here is a look back at my JBIT history:
2005 - 1:29:32
2006 - 1:24:52
2007 - 1:20:04
2008 - 1:13:50

By my calculations, I should be able to win sometime around the year 2013.

I had a great time at the race and it topped off a great weekend! Miranda rode down there with me which was great - it is never as fun to have to go by yourself. She also happened to kick butt with a 2nd place win in our age group. I felt sooo much better than I did racing the same distance two weeks ago. I ran 12 miles the day before the race, and swam, but I also took an ice bath and I think that really helped. I ran 11 miles the day before the race last year, so I can compare pretty fairly between the two, except, well, it was pouring during last year's race. I had a handful of friends (Greg, Eddie, Ross, William) who were out there doing their first triathlon. How cool?? I love sharing the tri world with new people. They all finished with big smiles on their faces and I think they are all coming back for more.

Here is how my numbers this year compared to last year (I can't complain...especially considering I haven't been biking or swimming at all):

2007
Overall Place: 174/380
Age Group: 7/27
Swim: 5:21
T1: 1:35
Bike: 44:30 (16.2 mph)
T2: 1:07
Run: 28:40 (9:34 min/mile)

2008
Overall Place: 142/393
Age Group: 7/21 (ugh - where did all the fast people come from???)
Swim: 5:18 (barely faster than last year...oops!)
T1: 1:05 (fastest in my age group by 28 seconds!)
Bike: 40:24 (17.8 mph)
T2: :48 (fastest in my age group again)
Run: 26:16 (8:46 min/mile)

Me with first-timer Greg (he and his wife are in my running group)

Last minute thought: Ooooh ya - I also did my new bike dismount and was super proud. I even pointed my toes and had a beautifully extended arabesque from my ballet days when I swung my right leg over my bike. I think I'm just going to stick with shoes on the bike in T2 for now, but keep them off the bike in T1. I'm still plenty fast putting my shoes on and running with them as opposed to having them on the bike already. Plus I've seen lots of accidents and don't want to cause one myself!

Wow, very impressive improvement in the last year! Congrats!
Nice job Kathleen!
I actually met Greg's wife while I was volunteering at the end of the bike course.

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
