This morning our masters workout was pretty good - I got in 3300 (I think...I tried to recount and couldn't come back up with that #, but it is what I had in my head when I got out of the pool, so I'm going with it).
Our last big set was 6X100 pull, 6X100 swim with fins, and 6X100 swim. After that I was pretty tired and it was close to getting out time, but the coach decided we were going to finish with a few 25yd sprints. We could even, gasp, dive off the blocks if we wanted. We decided we were in the water already for #1, so we went off the wall. We were to get out at the other end and walk back, so we could dive for #2. I was uneasy about the whole prospect as soon as "dive" was mentioned. I'm a great diver actually - toes pointed and everything. Unfortunately my pointed toes don't help keep my goggles on. I immediately lept back to being 11 year old at the country club summer swim league and being scared then too about diving with my goggles.
Well, I crawled up on the block, took my mark, and WENT! And so did my goggles! Right down around my face. Lovely. So I swam to the end, got out, and was done for the day. After a quick shower I leave the gym. As soon as I got outside I started to notice things looked a bit fuzzy. I couldn't see quite as well and began to wonder if I had lost a contact or 2 during my lovely dive. As I kept walking I looked around at things to see if I thought they looked fuzzy or not. When I was finally in my car I fished around for contacts in both eyes and NONE were to be found! I'm such a dork. My one dive with goggles in my adulthood resulted in me losing 2 contacts at once. They weren't daily contacts either - they are monthly ones that I just put in a week ago. Lesson learned: no more heroic diving for me at masters swimming. It is going to start costing me too much.
