Hot Pants and Race Wheels

What do they have in common? They both require me to "act the part" when wearing/using them. As I sit here and hear the weather roaring outside, I'm laughing a bit because the storm I prayed would come at or before 6pm (track practice time) is just arriving now. However, I did get my track workout in and I'm very glad I did. I feel great now. We were to do 2-4 sets of 600-400-600 repeats and I was very content only doing 2. But, I wore the hot pants to the track, so that meant I couldn't wuss out and had to at least do two full sets...not just jog a few laps and talk more than I ran. Had I not worn the hot pants, I could have called it quits after just one set, and claimed that I was still recovering from whatever. But, when wearing hot pants, you must do at least the minimum prescribed workout. Even better news is that Shellie talked me into doing a 3rd set when I had no intention of doing it. I was able to make all the intervals and feel great now. So, the next time you aren't motivated to go do your run and are worried you might give it a half-ass effort, throw on a pair of hot pants and you'll be sure to kick butt.

Race wheels have the same stigma. I am now the proud new owner (well, not quite yet) of a pair of HED 3 race wheels. I have no business having race wheels. People could look at my little slow pace and say "why does she think she needs race wheels?" So, I have to act the part and look like I do need race wheels. So, in addition to being required to run fast while wearing hot pants, I am now required to bike fast when using race wheels. I'll post pictures of the wheels when I get them. As for the hot pants, they were what I had on when I graced the cover of Inside Texas Running. See, I was running fast that day in the hot pants and made it all the way to a magazine cover!

I also did a track workout lastnight in hot pants.

2.5 mile warmup
2x6x400 on 80s
1.5 mile cool down

i had to retire the hot pants, i think my butt grew or something, they just were not working for me.

woo-hoo race wheels! Who cares what others think? They look cool. Probably should help with the Arizona winds too.

Will hot pants fix my hip? More to the point, do hot pants remain "hot" if they are worn by me instead of iron-marathon-gurl? And if I wear them, will they fix my hip? I'll try just about anything.

I prefer the term Manpree's when I rock'em.. Although it would be cool to cut one of the legs off and go Jackie Joyner-Kersee style...

I just stumbled on your blog through HRTC, I have a pair of Hed 3's and I'm not an elite triathlete by any means. They do look cool and will help your bike splits. I only race sprints where they make a small difference. In a long race (such as an Ironman) they can cut minutes off your time. Just be careful in cross winds as you can be pushed to the side some (but much less then a disc wheel). Also use them as race wheels only, they are expensive and if you get one out of true they cannot be fixed. One other thing, they make a cool sound when riding them, kinda of like a helicopter. Isn't looking the part half the battle of racing tri's?Have Fun.

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
