Update on Life

A LOT has gone on in the last week.  To say it has been a crazy one would be an understatement.  I guess the biggest news to come out of the week is that I'm stepping out of my comfort zone...about 165 miles out of my comfort zone.  I'm moving to Austin. Soon.   I interviewed for an internal audit position on Monday and had verbally accepted an offer by Tuesday afternoon.  I start work there Wednesday, July 21.  This is something I have wanted for as long as I've been away from Austin (6 years), but something I did nothing about until just recently.  I'm going to wear out the word "bittersweet" very soon, but it is the best way to describe the move.  A friend told me I was "sappy" - what her kids call sad and happy.  I think I like it!  I am soooooo excited about the new opportunity, new experience, new city, new people, all in a place I love.  At the same time I'm scared, overwhelmed, and beyond sad at the thought of leaving so many great things here.

A few other notable events have happened recenltly as well:

1.  The Houston running community and a few Beaumont natives have raised nearly $4000 for Danny.  The outpouring of support has been absolutely incredible.  In less than 24 hours, something really really awful turned into something really really awesome.  There have been several times since the fire that I literally feel like my heart is just overflowing and I'm amazed at how present God has been in all of this.  Danny says he's going to use some of the money to buy me a halo and that he is going to name all his children Kathleen, but the person he is and always has been is more than enough thanks.

2.  Much less notable and exciting, I finished up 31 days in a row of running last Wednesday.  I tried "streaking" for a month, a la June, more out of curiosity than anything else.  I didn't really run any huge mileage through the month, but think running every day did help with the heat a bit.  There were several days where a mile was all I covered, but I did it.  I also had a first on day 28...

3.  My first age group win in a race of any kind.  I did a small sprint triathlon in San Antonio last Sunday and won my age group and was the 3rd woman overall.  Safe to say it was a small field!!!  There were less than 100 people.  I did run fairly well for me though, so maybe the 27 days of running I had under my belt heading into the race helped.

4.  My Grandmother is not doing well and I absolutely hate what my mom and the rest of their family are having to go through with her.  Sad is an understatement.  Unfortunately it is a part of any parent getting old but gees, I hate it.  My mom has been so strong and continues to amaze me at how supportive she has been able to be of Elizabeth and me even while all this is going on.  Please pray for them.

5.  Radney Foster rocks my world.  We went to see him at the Mucky Duck on Thursday and somehow landed some of the best seats in the house - my feet were propped up on the stage to give you an idea of how close we were.  We had a great night, one that had been planned for quite a while.  I had no idea when plannig it that it would be one of my last nights out with friends here in Houston, but safe to say I'm going to make the most of the time I have left here!

6.  I shed my first tears over the move tonight on my way home from church.  I'm afraid that is one thing in Austin that just might not be able to compare to my experience in Houston.  I am so thankful for the experience I have had at St. Lukes over the past several months and hope and pray I can find something even remotely similar in Austin.

Wow! That really has happened fast. I'm excited for your fresh start and congratulations on the new job. I will miss you, but I think if Austin is where you want to be, there is no time like the present. Keep me posted on going away activities.

Congratulations on your new job and your AG win! Running every day in this heat we have been experiencing really has helped. I know it helped me out on my Marathon last week.

I will be keeping your mom in my prayers.

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
