Eight Miles - Watch Out!

I ran 8 whole miles last night, and it went very well. The only issue is that it took half the night to do it! I broke the 13:00 min/mile barrier for the first time last night too! My official pace was 12:52/mile for the whole run, but that should really be like 12:59 because I took off and "stretched my legs" for the last 1/4 mile at a 9:15 pace so that brought it way down.

8 miles is the furthest I have ever run by myself too. Isn't that sad? I'm proud of myself for sticking it out yesterday though. At the start I was not the least bit excited about the run and had no idea how far I was going to actually go. We had our work Christmas lunch a few hours earlier and I stuffed my face, to say the least. But by about 2 miles into the run I was good to go and kept right at same pace the entire run. I guess I'm learning some of the "benefit" or whatever of HR training - when they say "easy," they really do mean easy. I think I could run forever in zone 2, but I guess most people could and just don't know it. Maybe that is why the 8 last night by myself wasn't that bad - because it was not that physically challenging. I usually look to other people to keep my mind off the pain when I'm doing long runs, but last night there really wasn't any pain to worry about!

I am still content at my little slow pace right now, but I hope it really does all come together like it is supposed to and that eventually I'm back to where I was, pace-wise, before I got so sick. If nothing else, it has taught me that I'm not supposed to be doing long runs at 180-190 bpm. I mean, I guess we all already knew that, but the more reading I have done about all of it has further reiterated how bad it is for me to be running long at that high of a HR.

I'm shooting for 10 on Saturday morning and 12 the Saturday after Christmas. If all that goes ok, I will feel pretty good about running the half in Houston on Jan 18. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for sure...

You were sick? What was wrong? I am glad you were satisfied with your run today. I am happy just to be walking around Charlottesville! It has been so long since I have been able to get any kind of good exercise. Although, I would rather still have Bella inside of me...it is good to be able to relieve some stress with walking. Chris and I wanted to thank you for the wonderful gift basket you sent with Luke. It was GREAT!!! I had no idea you went to UT; I was so happy to see the outfit in the basket. You should have seen the look on Chris's face...priceless. It was so kind of you to put that together for the three of us. Also, thank you for connecting us with so many different preemie parents, they have been a tremendous help. Good luck with your run Saturday. Take care and God Bless! --Machel

Glad you are feeling better. Looks like you will be in Austin for the 1/2. If you have time, it would be great if me, you and Steph could do dinner the night before.

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
