No, not talking about Galveston or Bolivar this time...I'm talking about me!
Shellie and I ran 14 miles Saturday morning with our new pace buddy Tim (he's stuck whether he likes it or not!) and we had a good run. We ran well under 11:00 pace which is fast for us, but I felt dead the whole time. I'm not surprised though and just kept reminding myself I'm supposed to feel like crap right now.
We ran a little over 3 last night and I thought it would help with the soreness, but I'm even more sore today! I may do a very short run with some stretching tonight, or maybe not. I'm just pooped.
Life is still getting closer to normal for me while it is anything but for others. Shellie probably won't have power until later in the week so she is still staying with me - it has been super fun though. Randy came over Saturday to do laundry, and we cooked for him and Luke Saturday night. I've had more company through Ike than I have had in months. Jen and Augie are coming over tonight and we're going to cook again. This domestic stuff has been fun.
I tried to volunteer over the weekend - I promise, I really did. I sent out an email to over 700 people (mostly tri club members) on Friday with volunteering information for the UH POD. I only got a response from a few people, but I was still excited about helping out and we planned to go around noon. After my run Saturday morning, I got a text saying that POD had been shut down and to try Sharpstown. So Shellie and I showed up at Sharpstown at noon and were turned away, saying they weren't taking any more volunteers. So we went shopping instead...you know, volunteering to help out by stimulating the local economy. I got new running shoes even though I just bought a new pair 6 weeks ago. I was shocked when I realized they had over 200 miles on them and the inside of the right heel is already falling apart. When I bought them, I bought them to be my marathon shoes, but now I have an even newer pair. Hopefully they hold up the 12 days between now and the race.

I think they've down a good job of getting the lights back on in some of the more "challenged" areas.
Free time does increase volunteerism-I think there were more than a hundred folks at the Conservancy work party at Memorial Park.
