Bad, Bad Day

Ugh. That about describes my day. Ugh again.

I have just gone through lots and lots of allergy and asthma testing. I did half of it last Friday and half of it today. Both times the allergy testing was done across my entire back and then on my right arm. Friday more things on my back reacted, but today, the grass test on my right arm blew up. It has been 8 hours and I still look like I have a baseball growing out of my tricep. I'm not happy. It hurts, bad. It hurt to even run today. I took a Zyrtec as soon as I got home and they put ice on it at the dr, but it didn't help. So add a bum right arm to my bum left knee, left butt cheek and both hands from my spill on Saturday and I'm doing great. I'm also just plain sick again - especially in my chest. Speaking of chest issues, it turns out I do indeed have asthma, ("uncontrolled asthma" as it was called) and have probably had it since childhood. The dr said my high heart rate when I run just doesn't make much sense for someone as healthy as me, but says that treating my asthma may make a huge difference. She commented on how healthy my low heart rate was when she listened to it on Friday, but that made her even more surprised that it can get so high when I exercise. So, I am going on Symbacort for that, as well as keeping up with the albuterol when I need it. So the symbacort is medicine #1 that will probably screw with my sleeping....don't worry, there are more to come on my fun list. I also have to go to a cardiologist now to follow up on a birth defect I had just to make sure that combined with the asthma and my exercise isn't recipe for something not-so-good. Maybe I can get some VO2 max testing or something similar out of that!

Next up are my wonderful allergies. She said I wasn't "sort of" allergic to anything. I either wasn't allergic, or I was beyond allergic, hence my right arm blowing up. I learned I'm allergic to cattle. Good to know. I will have to stay away from those cows now. Also guinea pigs...again, I guess I will have to take mine to the pound. I'm very very allergic to dust mites, food molds, grass, ragweed, orris root (you know, the stuff in potpourri and newspaper ink), down feathers, cats, and who knows what else.

Now for the fun part. What I can't have for the next 3 months: all dairy, yeast (no bread, beer, aged cheese...as in no pizza, baked goods, sandwiches, etc), mushrooms (I don't like them anyway, no biggie there), olives (again, wouldn't touch one), tyhme (apparently this rules out Italian food), and cinnamom. I don't drink milk or eat tons of yogurt, but I do like cheese and I can't have that anymore. No ice cream either. So fun. So what did I do about this today? Had a sandwich and chocolate cake for dinner, of course. I have to get all new bedding which sucks. Bedding is expensive and all of my down stuff is/was very nice.

I dropped 6 prescriptions off at the pharmacy tonight, including one for the allergy shots I get to give myself twice a week for the next two months and then once a week for at least 3 years (we will see if that happens...). On top of all this fun stuff I tried to run at track tonight and almost died. My HR was way way too high to be running at T-pace (the slowest you would run in a track workout). I even got a ride home because I didn't feel like running/walking the whole 1/2 mile from the track back home.

So I'm feeling sorry for myself right now and pretty lonely too. I wouldn't mind just crawling up into someone's arms right now and falling asleep - and knowing I will sleep regardless of what drugs I am on!!! I know things could be way worse and people deal with this all the time, but I am just so frustrated. I haven't run well in forever. I've done pretty much no speed work because it has been too hot and I've been too sick. Sure my long runs have been going well, but they have been done way slower than my goal marathon pace, as discussed earlier, but that doesn't help much if I don't run any faster than that at any other time. I have also gained 8 lbs since IMAZ and I just feel so fat and ugly and yucky. I dread going back on all this medicine because I have no idea what it will do to me weight-wise.

I guess I should have given a Debbie Downer warning at the beginning of this post. Oh well.

Wow. I thought I was going to need to get tested for allergies again, but no way after hearing your story! I used to give myself allergy shots several years ago, but then my allergies went away. Now they are back. I even had an allergic reaction to popcorn last week. There goes that pre-run meal. Good luck!

Take care Kathleen. That really does sound like you had a bad day....I hope today goes a bit better. And that all those allergies ease up.

That really, really is a lot to deal with all at one time, but once you get through this rough patch, it sounds like there is a lot of reason to think you might feel eons better and run faster all at the same time. Plus I bet the diet restrictions whack those eight pounds in no time - no cheese, cake or pasta? - you'll be a waif by the time it is all over. Hang in there, girl!

Oh Kathleen,

Hon, I really feel your pain. I know exactly what you are going through. The bread, baked goods part is going to be the hardest part but trust me, once you get this stuff out of your diet for a month you are going to feel much better and you will probably notice a drop in weight on the scale.

I had to go back to the allergist last week and he took me off all grains because i was still having itching, swelling, and digestive issues with oats and rice. By going cold turkey I have lost 3 pounds in one week because I was peeing off all the water weight.

Stay positive, there are still chocolate bars...

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
