A Night at the Museum and a Morning in Pearland

Friday night I organized a social outing for the tri club at Mixers, Elixers, and IMAX at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. We ended up scoring free VIP passes which was awesome! They had a band that turned out to be really good, dancing, drinks, and good food. Oooh - they also had glow jewelry and beakers full of starburst. How fun! They have it every Friday night in the Summer and it really is a smart use of the museum after hours - for the big kids to play! I plan on organizing another round for the tri club in July.
Saturday morning the alarm went off waaaaay too early after too much socializing the night before, but I ran 10 miles for the first time since my 1/2 Ironman in May and it actually went pretty well. Houston Fit had a small party afterward and we sat around eating watermelon and bagels - very fun!
Saturday night Shellie and I went on a date (you didn't know we are dating? It's going great!).

Sunday I raced in the Y Freedom Tri in Pearland. It was a 300m pool swim, 12 mile bike, and 3 mile run. I sucked. Big time. I did improve on my time at this distance from last year by 4 minutes (1:20 to 1:16), but ugh. People beat me who I was able to beat just a few weeks ago. I guess the fact that I hadn't been in the pool or on my bike in 3 weeks didn't help. Getting back to my first full week of running, including 10 miles the day before, didn't help either. I guess the fact that I didn't do much exercise of any sort in the previous 2-3 weeks because of bronchitis didn't help either. I thought I might have actually had a chance to place and I ended up 7th out of 15 in my age group. How wrong was I!! A frozen mimosa at Onion Creek and a nap took care of me afterwards though.

My next race on July 13th is the same distance and I'm hoping to have a better showing. I'll be upset if I'm any slower than 1:14 and I promise I will train for this one (as much as you can train in 2 weeks).

Ok girl,

You improved your time by 4 minutes, but the race sucked eggs??? I think that is darn good after an illness, lack of training, and a 10 mile run the day before.

The glass is half full, the glass is half full, the glass is half full...

Hi Kathleen,

I am so glad to hear that you and your group had a good time at Mixers - thanks for bringing people by the Museum! Good luck with your next race!

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
