Swimming, Biking, and Running

That's what we do as triathletes, right? I guess I'll write a little about each.

Swimming update:
I finally got myself to masters on Tuesday night and it was a good workout. I swam 3100yds and did not die. That included 4x250 of pulling, which is good for this time of year and good for triathletes who don't really kick anyway. I also got out of work early last Friday and got in a 1600yd swim then with a 1000yd time trial. I haven't looked yet for any old times to see how it compared, but the time was nothing impressive, so I'm looking for some substantial improvement over the next few months!

Biking update:
Did Rick's Brick again on Sunday. It was awesome, as expected. I was surprised how hot it got though considering I'd started my previous 2 long rides dressed up looking like a snowman because it had been so cold. Looks like I'll be dressed that way again on Saturday, but probably soaking wet as well. Can't wait. But back to Sunday's ride. We had a tail wind most of the way which was very nice. That ride was easier on me mentally and physically than my 2 previous rides of 60 and 65 miles. I definitely deserved a good ride after the hell of those 2 rides. Kim, Ingrid, and Holly all ride substantially further than they had before, so that was very neat too. Rick is still out there riding, in this awful weather, and I have thought about him often this week. It is just crazy that he has the ability and passion to ride all that way and then run a marathon!

Running update:
I did a 12 mile run on Saturday that ended up hurting way worse than it should have. My pace was good - just over 11:00 when all was said and done, but I think I learned a sad lesson. My HR was steadily in Z2 for the first 6 miles that I ran by myself, but then when I ran the next 6, I stayed at the same pace I had been, but was talking to friends, and my HR just could not handle it. Very sad. Around 10 miles in, I had to bid farewell to my friends and walk for a few minutes to get my HR back under control. It was still a good run considering everything that has gone on, but it took way more out of me than even a 15-18 mile run used to! Oh well, hopefully things will get better as I build my base back up.

I had a good track workout last night too. Sadly it was 6 points lower the VDOT scale than I was doing last year, but my 1200/1600/1200 at T pace and 6x200 at I pace went off without a hitch, other than it being just plain hard. But workouts like that are supposed to be hard. Actually, the worst part of track last night might have been running past a bar to and from the workout wearing black knee socks!

I am running the Seabrook 1/2 Marathon on Sunday but really have no expectations whatsoever. I have a feeling they will form in the first few miles of the race. Maybe I will run super fast to more quickly end the embarassment of my new socks...

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
