Six Days

So, um, it is this week. I had a brief encounter with "I'm doing an Ironman in 6 days" this morning, but it only lasted about 30 minutes. During that time though, instead of getting ready for work, I pulled out my options for race-day attire. Don't be fooled at the volume - it is all coming with me and I'll decide Saturday night or Sunday morning what I am actually going to wear. The weather in CDA is looking about as hard to predict as winter in Texas. Also, it is a matter of just how cold 50s might feel soaking wet at the beginning of a ride or just how warm mid 80s might feel at 5pm during a marathon. So many choices...
And I'm already back out of ironman world and back into regular Kathleen world. This weekend was fun, and felt very different without a 70-100 mile ride and long run on the schedule. HRTC went to Firethorne past Katy to ride Saturday morning and I had a really good time. I pulled out my road bike which had not been ridden since October 2006 and it actually worked like a charm. The ride was pretty funny for everyone doing CDA because it was a total B-team event with everyone's "old" bike gear as we had all sent our current bikes off the day before. Poor Holly even had to wear running shoes and platform pedals as her good pedals were halfway to CDA by then. That didn't seem to slow her down though... We did a quick run after the ride to kill time before we could swim - seriously quick, as in 14 whole minutes. Good enough. Then I did a seriously quick swim...as in maybe 1000 yds. Then, the fun part of the day came: I went to Wal-Mart on my way home. I despise Wal-Mart, but don't have as much of a problem with it when it is not in "my hometown." I spent over an hour raking up a whopping $50 tab and came out with all sorts of fun stuff ranging from an air conditioner filter to an Op bathing suit. The world without Ironman training is indeed new to me!

Saturday night I went to dinner to bid farewell to one of my old running buddies who was also my trainer for quite a while. She and her family are awesome and we are all very very sad to see them go. It was great to catch up with that group as well - it had been way too long.

Sunday Jon raced in La Porte at the Sylvan Beach Triathlon and as we pulled up I told him I thought that may be the first triathlon in Houston I have ever attended without racing. It was very odd! I manged to actually squeeze a run in as well - I started suiting up while he was on the swim because I knew if I did not do it then it was not going to happen. I was on the last mile of my run when the first guys were heading out to run so it was neat to see it from that perspective. Jon did awesome scoring a 3rd place age group finish in the always-competitive M30-34 age group. We spent the rest of the day doing nothing. Well, I got bored and restless enough to go to Super Target down by him - a huge treat as we don't have one near me that I go to often.

I have three workouts left before I head out on Thursday...still crazy to believe I have a big race in six days. The thought is starting to creep in though, at the perfect pace.

So this is going to sound crazy and stalker-ish, but I saw you at Target yesterday! I've read your blog for a while and I thought it might be you, but not having met you in person, I wasn't 100% certain. So I didn't say anything.

Anyway, upon reading this entry, I now wish I had. :)

I'm laying 10 to 1 that you wear pink on race day. Just a guess.

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
