Melodies and Memories

Got a big leather suitcase, all I own's inside
Seems I've been walkin' for days, can't even bum a ride
Try steppin' to a tune, with the rhythm of a walkin' man
Mind drifts like a big balloon out of my situation at hand

Ain't it funny how a melody can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind

Walkin' down a lonely highway not feelin' alone
Thinkin' back when things went my way and not the road I'm on
Well, I've been down a time or two, but it never lasts long
I can always make it through on a wing and a prayer and a song

Ain't it funny how a melody can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind

It can make a right from a wrong, it can make you fall in love
It can get you singin' along

Chase the clouds away and make the sun shine above
A melody can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind

A melody can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind

Wow. It was Clint Black who sang the above melody. If I remember correctly, I listened to that song as part of my sister's "Hardin House '93/'94" mix tape that I stole sometime during middle school. That song itself does not bring back many memories other than my long-term obsession with mix tapes, but the message is clear.

I talked to my friend Mike last night for the first time in way too long. He is one of my best friends in the whole wide world and moved to DC last year, so we don't see each other or talk near as often as we used to. One of the things we share is a love of music, and only certain music. Anyways, he told me he got a new Robert Earl Keen CD recently called "Undone" which is a compilation of several other Texas artists singing some of his biggest hits. I downloaded it this morning and wow. Just wow. Talk about melodies bringing back memories - all good ones.

Just after I posted that no one was raining on my parade the other day I think my parade was flooded. It is amazing how quickly things can change for the worse, but I am right now reminded how quickly they can change for the better as well. I'm making rights from wrongs, I'm falling in love, and the clouds are quickly making way for the sun.

So go download this album or dig up an old mix tape (tape, not CD...very important here) and I guarantee it will completely change your state of mind (...at least until your boss wants some work done).

Ok - thought this post was done but the song "Cristabel" just started playing. It is one I probably would have never remembered again in my life if I hadn't just heard it, but I have an unmistakable smirk on my face right now as I'm thinking back to Kelly and me listening to this song - I have no idea where or when, but I just remember singing "Crist-AAAAA.......bel." Maybe we were listening to it going in circles in reverse in her jeep, or maybe in my accord on the way to school driving in "turbo charge" gear (5th gear on the back road to school...ooooh we were living on the edge).

Still here. Still infertile.

Sigh.  Here we are again.  We knew all along we would be able to start the process for baby #2 when Sloane was nine months old.  I had said we did not necessarily want kids that close together, but knew just because we started then did not mean we would get pregnant then.  If I had only known how true that is becoming.  Silly us had started having visions of three kids.  The only way we can have three kids is to have things go smoothly, not lose embryos, and not lose time.  Well, so far we have lost an embryo and a lot of time in the quest for our next baby. I breezed through prep for our transfer in early May.  The stress load was so much less than before because I thought we had it figured out.  We had Sloane as a great distraction.  My lining was better than it has ever been before - by far.  Then, the day after Mother's Day, I found out it did not work.  And I was immediately thrown back into the depths of infertility hell....

Into the Donor Egg World We Go

As I sit down to write this, I'm shocked to see February 27, 2022 was the last post I've written about our IVF journey.  In some ways, it seems like so much has happened over the last year, and on the other hand it seems like nothing has happened at all because we are back to square one. I'll provide a quick summary of the last year, but please understand this won't even begin to describe the true roller coaster ride we have been on.  I actually don't think it is even appropriate to call it a roller coaster because that indicates there are some ups.  Our ride has been more like a train ride through hell. After our failed transfer in February, we decided to take a break in March to let my body rest a bit before transferring our next embryo.  During that time, a friend reached out and told me about her friend that hadn't had success here but did at CCRM in Colorado.  At the time it almost felt like a divine intervention, but I now know better.  We spent seven...

We did it!
